Every Child Matters

Every Child Matters highlights the five outcomes that are the governments universal ambitions for every child and young person, whatever their background or circumstances. The DfES recognises that the outcomes are mutually reinforcing. We take a holistic approach to these outcomes and seek to educate the young people we work with in respect of this.

The following explains how our interventions help young people to achieve success in all five outcomes:

Stay healthy

  • Our programmes help young people to develop positive self image. By celebrating emotional and behavioural development we positively affect the psychological well being of the young people we work with.
  • Activities we use to develop peoples minds also develop their bodies. The adventurous activities are fun and healthy exercise that encourage participation and instil a positive view of taking exercise.
  • We always provide food, living standards and structure that promote a healthy lifestyle and we encourage and educate the young people we work with to adopt these practices too.
Stay Safe

  • Experiential learning leading to personal development is at the heart of what we do. Our approach encourages young people to understand physical and social boundaries and subsequently become risk aware rather than risk averse.
  • We can provide basic first aid advice and training to course participants.
  • All our work builds self esteem and confidence, empowering young people to make good decisions.
Enjoy & Achieve

  • All learning is designed to be achievable and promote success. People learn best when they are having fun. We embrace this and try to keep the atmosphere of a course up-beat and humorous.
  • Young people are happiest when taking part in structured activity. We encourage participation in our courses on a structured basis that is discussed and agreed with the young people.
  • Gaining qualifications. As well as fully celebrating emotional and behavioural development we can also provide courses that result in young people achieving a qualification that marks their achievement too.
Make a positive contribution
  • Every participant's effort is recognised and celebrated appropriately and we always identify and reward success.
  • Use of appreciative enquiry techniques helps even extremely negative people to understand they can make a positive contribution to their team, their friends and indeed their own future.
  • Wherever possible young people are encouraged to take part in decisions and are consulted and involved in the planning and organising of programmes and activities
Achieve economic welbeing
  • The holistic nature of our programmes along with the way in which we facilitate review and reflection encourages young people to focus on a positive future and also to appreciate the things that are necessary to achieve that future. By concentrating on changing negative attitudes and behaviours into positive ones, young people on our programmes are laying the foundation for stability and success both emotionally and economically.
  • As well as equipping young people with the skills to succeed in the workplace, we can provide courses that result in qualifications that will add value to a young persons CV.
  • By using reflective group, and one to one interviews, and our own developed behavioural assessment tools, we can both qualitatively and quantitatively define each young person's progress with respect to each of the 5 outcomes during and following an intervention.
